Julie Weber
Dark Adaptation
January 21-February 25 2017

Julie Weber works in photographic media, but practices her art as durational performance. Using light sensitive materials, she experiments with the nature of image exposure in real time, with an audience present. The resulting works are unfixed photographic images, which will develop indefinitely beyond the parameters of the initial presentation.

Dark Adaptation is an installation of unfixed photograms that are viewed in a darkened room lit by a red light. For short intervals of time, a tungsten light bulb will turn on, exposing the prints to light and thus altering the initial image. The images below are representative of the initial state; with each interval of tungsten light, the prints will gradually fade and darken into a solid color. The scored markings that outline the initial composition will remain the only trace of what once occurred.

Tungsten light schedule: once an hour on the half for 5 minutes:

Fridays and Saturdays during gallery hours: 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, and 4:30pm

Images will be posted over the course of the exhibition to show the color shift the prints will undergo. Below is Week 4:
