Eleftheria (Freedom) Lialios is a Chicago-based photographer with a long and distinguished history in the Chicago art community. Originally from Detroit, she got her start photographing locally distinct communities at a time when Detroit was in its famous decline; communities that are long gone in sections of a city that have vanished. Presented here are several bodies of work from her Detroit years in the 1970s and 1980s, followed by images she took in Chicago of art world luminaries in the 1980s and 1990s.
Lialios’ photographs are included in the collections of the The J Paul Getty Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography in Thessaloniki, Greece, and the Hellenic Museum in Chicago.
